빛과 에너지의 연금술사, 정연우
1994년 12월 프랑스 남부 쇼베(Chauvet) 동굴에서 곰과, 코뿔소, 표범, 말등 동물의 그림 300여점이 발견 되었다. 이 동굴의 벽화는 약 3만 2천년전 선사 시대 그림으로 남아있는 스페인 알타미라 동굴 벽화보다 먼저 그려진 그에 필적할 만한 걸작이라는 평가를 받았다. 프랑스의 라스코동굴과 4만년 전의 인도네시아 마로스 동굴벽화처럼 말이다. 알타미라 동굴벽화를 직접 보고 파블로 피카소(Pablo Picasso)는 “알타미라 동굴벽화 이후 모든 미술은 쇠퇴하고 있다”고 할 정도로 예술성을 극찬했다.
그렇다면 인간은 도대체 언제부터 예술을 했을까? 왜 예술을 했을까. 이것은 예술의 기원에 대한 문제이다. 예술의 발생설은 보통 세 가지이다. 예술의 유희설과 노동기원설, 그리고 세 번째가 가장 강력한 가설이 주술성이다. 인간은 무엇인가를 바라고 기원하기 위해 그림을 그린다는 것이다.
현대적 주술은 자신의 내면의 빛과 만나 그것이 자신을 밝히고 안내하는 것
명상가이자 만다라 작가로 널리 알려진 정연우 작가의 작업은 선사시대 이러한 동굴벽화의 기원과 맥락을 같이한다. 에너지를 그리는 그녀는 존재의 근원과 에너지의 원형을 찾아 연구했고 그녀의 작업은 이러한 기원적 주술을 현대적으로 세련되게 표현하고 있다. 그녀는 “고대의 주술은 외부에서 빛을 찾았다면 현대적 주술은 내면에서 자신의 빛과 만나는 것이고 그것이 자신을 밝히고 자신을 안내하는 것입니다. 다시 말하면 깨어난 내면의 빛은 자신이 원하는 삶을 비추는 등대가 됩니다”라고 말하고 있다. 그녀의 작품들을 소장하면서 행운들이 생겼다는 것이 입소문으로 전해지면서 저명인사들도 작품을 소장하고 있다. 지난 10 여년 동안 전시할 작품들이 없을 정도였다.
‘만다라명상’이라는 새로운 예술명상의 장르를 열어 지금까지 수많은 명상전문가를 길러낸 명상마스터이기도 그녀는 일찍이 성균관대학교에서 동양화를 전공하고 수석으로 졸업, 교육자로서 교사생활을 하면서 작가활동을 했지만 평범한 삶을 살 수 없었다고 말한다. 그 이유는 언제나 한 가지 질문. 그것은 “나는 누구인가?, 어디서 와서 어디로 가는가” 에 대한 존재에 대한 물음이었다. 예술가이기 이전에 한 인간으로서 매우 근원적이고 본질적인 고민이었고 그녀는 이 답을 찾기 위해 세상을 떠돌아다녔다.
2005년부터 겨울에 잎을 내는 소나무의 생명력을 그리다가 이후 정연우의 화폭에는 솔방울 열매들이 회화적 모티브가 된다. 끊임없이 순환하는 자연 속에서 생성과 소멸에 대한 존재의 심연을 보고자 했다. 나중에 그녀가 알게 된 것은 한동안 자신이 탐구하던 솔방울은 뇌의 송과체(제3의 눈, 초의식과 관련된 빛과 에너지의 송수신 안테나)라는 것이다. 명상을 하고 그림을 그리면서 자신도 모르게 무의식의 보고인 송과체가 활성화되면서 우주와 하나가 되는 신비한 영적 경험들을 했었고 이후 의학적인 검사를 통해서도 그녀의 송과체의 크기는 일반인의 2~3배가 된다는 사실을 알게 되었다.
무채색의 검은 먹으로 응축된 에너지와 강렬한 내적 울림을 표현하던 수묵화 시절, 작가는 갑자기 모든 한국에서의 생활을 정리하고 7살 아이의 손을 잡고 인도로 떠났다. 그 이유는 깨달음을 얻고 싶어서였다. 그리고 정착한 인도에서 작가는 명상을 하면서 우주를 담은 둥근 그림 '만다라' 즉 에너지라는 원의 세계 회화에 입문했다. 마치 한국의 대표적인 김환기가 수없이 원을 그리고 방혜자가 빛의 세계에 탐닉한 것과 같다.
석탄에서 다이아몬드까지, 어둠에서 빛으로, 검은 먹에서 컬러로.
작가가 그토록 내면의 빛을 찾아다녔던 이유는 내면의 깊은 어둠이 있었기 때문이다. “예전에 사는 것도 아니고 죽는 것도 아닌 것처럼 삶이 온통 무채색이었어요. 검은 먹 대신 컬러를 쓰고 싶었지만 왠지 모르게 그럴 수 없었어요. 나중에 알게 된 것은 컬러가 에너지이며 무의식의 메시지라는 것이예요.” 그러면서 깊고 깊은 땅 속에서 수억만 년 뜨거운 열과 압력으로 단련된 석탄이 마침내 투명하고 빛나는 다이아몬드가 되는 것처럼 자신의 여정도 이와 닮았다고 말하고 있다.
세상의 빛을 깨우는 정연우 작가의 출발은 이렇게 고통 속에 멈춰있는 삶을 살면서 7년 동안 무채색으로 그림을 그리는 검은 수묵의 시기를 지나 인도에서 드디어 ‘만다라’의 철학과 조형성의 회화를 만난 것이다. 빛과 아름다운 컬러로 내면의 빛을 꺼내고 그 빛을 세상과 나누는 것이 작가의 이상이자 이번 생의 유일한 소명이다.
빛과 파동의 시대, 모든 만물의 본질인 에너지를 그리다.
정연우 작가는 마치 긴 수행의 끝에 닻을 내린 둥근 원형에 아름답기 그지없는 형형색색의 컬러와 문양으로 사람들을 사로잡는 에너지 작가로 탄생 된 것이다. 그것은 화가로서, 명상가로서 치열하고 끊임없이 내면의 빛을 탐구한 진주 같은 땀방울이었다.

명상상태에서 그림을 그리는 정연우 작가는 “그것은 내면의 고요한 중심과 만나는 텅 빈 공의 상태입니다. 작업과정 내내 빛의 호흡을 하면서 제가 원하는 의도, 즉 창조를 불어넣는 에너지 과정입니다.”라고 말한다. 또 예술명상에 대해서 “예술이 자아를 창조적으로 표현하는 도구라면 명상은 자아를 찾아가는 성장과정이다. 이러한 예술과 명상이 함께할 때 명상의 궁극에 이를 수 있다”고 말한다.
그녀의 회화의 조형적 바탕에는 그림 속에 있는 신비하고 질서 있는 형태, 즉 기하학적 도형들이 핵심적 에너지로 빛을 상징하고 표현한다. 작가는 주로 조형 형식으로 온전한 파동에너지를 상징하는 둥근 원형이나 이들이 모인 육각형 구조를 차용하는데 육각형은 에너지의 완전성으로 완벽한 구조인 벌집 구조로 강력한 에너지를 상징하는 작품으로 변화한다. 작가는 또한 작품 속에서 이렇게 가장 명백한 논리로 사랑과 축복, 마음과 물질의 풍요, 치유 등 주제에 대해 에너지를 느끼면서 이를 물질화하는 명상작품을 창작하면서 이를 공유하고자 한다.

In December 1994, more than 300 paintings of animals, including members of the bear family, rhinos, leopards, and horses, were discovered in the Chauvet cave in southern France. The cave paintings were hailed as masterpieces comparable to those in Altamira Cave in Spain, which predate prehistoric paintings by some 32,000 years. Like the Lascaux caves in France and the 40,000-year-old Maros cave paintings in Indonesia. After seeing them in person, Pablo Picasso praised their artistry, saying, "After the Altamira cave paintings, all art is in decline." So when did humans start making art?
So when did humans start making art, and why? This is the question of art's origins. There are three main theories of art's development. There are three main theories of how art came to be: playfulness, labor, and the third, and most powerful, is witchcraft. The idea is that humans draw to hope for something, to pray for something.
Modern shamanism is about getting in touch with your own inner light and allowing it to illuminate and guide you.
Widely recognized as a meditator and mandala artist, Yeonwoo Jeong's work is in line with the prehistoric origins of these cave paintings. Painting energy, she searched for and studied the source of existence and the archetypes of energy, and her work is a modern refinement of this original shamanism. "While ancient shamanism looked for light from outside, modern shamanism is about meeting your own light from within and letting it illuminate you and guide you. This awakened inner light becomes a beacon that illuminates the life you want to live," she says. Her works are owned by prominent people as word-of-mouth reports of good fortune (business success, building purchases, healings, pregnancies, etc.) that have occurred since they have been in private collections. For the past 10 years, she hasn't had any to exhibit.
She is also a meditation master who has opened a new genre of artistic meditation and has trained many meditation experts so far, but she says that although she majored in oriental painting at Sungkyunkwan University and graduated as a senior, and worked as a teacher and writer as an educator, she could not live a normal life. The reason was always one question: "Who am I, where did I come from, and where am I going?" The question of existence. It was a very fundamental and essential question as a human being before an artist, and she wandered the world in search of answers.
Since 2005, she has been painting the vitality of pine trees that shed their leaves in winter, and since then, pine cone fruits have become the motifs of her paintings. She wanted to see the abyss of existence of creation and destruction in the constant cycle of nature. She later realized that the pine cones she had been exploring for some time were the pineal gland of the brain (the third eye, the transmitting and receiving antenna of light and energy associated with the superconscious). As she meditated and painted, she unknowingly activated the pineal gland, a treasure trove of the unconscious, and had mysterious spiritual experiences of oneness with the universe, and later medical tests revealed that her pineal gland was two to three times the size of the average person's.
At a time when her ink paintings were expressing condensed energy and intense inner resonance with colorless black ink, she suddenly packed up her life in Korea and left for India, holding the hand of her seven-year-old child. In India, where she settled, she meditated and began to paint circle worlds called Circle Energy, round paintings of the universe. It is as if Kim Hwan-ki, a representative artist of Korea, painted countless circles and Bang Hye-ja indulged in the world of light.
“From coal to diamonds, from darkness to light, from black ink to color.”
The reason why the artist searched for inner light so much was because there was a deep darkness inside her. "My life was colorless, as if I was neither living nor dying, and I wanted to use color instead of black ink, but for some reason I couldn't. I later learned that color is energy and a message from the unconscious." she says, adding that her journey is similar to that of coal, which has been tempered by heat and pressure for hundreds of millions of years in the depths of the earth, until it finally becomes a transparent and shining diamond.
The artist's journey to awaken the light of the world began in India, where she finally encountered the philosophy of 'circle' and formative painting after seven years of black ink drawing in colorless colors while living a life stuck in pain. Bringing out the inner light and sharing it with the world through light and beautiful colors is her ideal and her only calling in this life.

Jeong has been born as an energy artist, anchored in a rounded circle at the end of long practice, captivating with beautiful colors and patterns. It was a pearly drop of sweat from her fierce and relentless search for inner light as a painter and meditator.
She has traveled to the world's energy centers to capture light, vibration, and energy in her work. She has traveled to the canyons of the Grand Canyon of the USA, the Canadian Rockies, the Northern Lights of Elona, art galleries and palaces in Europe, and museums and special spaces around the world, practicing wave training to feel and draw their energy. Looking at the works of Picasso, Van Gogh, Claude Monet, and others, she connects with the energy of the originals and draws and draws and draws.

The sculptural underpinnings of her paintings are mysterious and orderly forms, geometric shapes that symbolize and represent light as a core energy. As a sculptural form, she often borrows rounded circles, which symbolize intact wave energy, or hexagonal structures, which are gathered together and transformed into honeycomb structures, which are perfect structures of energy, symbolizing powerful energy. In this most obvious logic, the artist aims to share this energy by creating meditative works that materialize it while feeling it on topics such as love and blessings, abundance of mind and matter, and healing.
